They are all interesting... pic no. 7, like what I see in that little sanke.
Nice butterfly too Kiefer :-)
So which are your keepers? And will they be going back to the mud?

Very nice, how much fun to watch them grow and change.
Terri pegged it Luke:wink: The sanke grabs my eye too! Nice group Kiefer! All look of good quality and health. Butterfly has got the bling bling thing going on
These are some from June and July Jackie.
The more unique butterfly that are small will be kept up until they get a little larger along with any nicley circled Tanchos....NOVELTY FISH......(comment inserted for Comrade lukevsky) just in case he's in the shadows..... as well as any other smaller koi that show exceptional potential that I do not want to risk to the snakes turtles and birds. The snakes are by far the biggest taker of koi between 2 and 5 inches. No way to keep them out. Tadpole, the farm pittbull actively hunts and dispatches several snakes a day, but between 90 some odd ponds, he's barely making a dent. Have lost a few potentially nice koi to them. All growout ponds are kept well weeded now. Am hopeing that it will help somewhat.
Regarding that Sanke, You all have a good eye. He has the late blooming sumi that I much prefer to see in a koi this age. He will be one to watch.

ok on the June July, I'm having trouble keeping track but knew they were small for april.
See, I thought that sanke was a showa... but however its called it caught my eye as well.
Maybe showa Jackie, just dont see any underlaying sumi past the eyes though. Traditionally, this pairing does not produce showa.

get a collapsible fish cage from Wal-mart. the kind crappie fisherman use with the spring lid.
Place it in the pond at the edge with the Spring lid mainly underwater. Put a couple of scraped up but live culls in the cage. the snakes smell em and keep poking at the cage till they randomly push the lid open and slid in...
what also works is to take some fine bird netting and loosely wad it up...in or out of the water it catches koi..But you ahve to get them out of the netting nd they are either alive or quite stinky.

Is black below the eyes a good indication of Showa. I get Showa and Sanke mixed up. I know Showa has more black (is a black fish?) but sometimes Sanke can have a fair bit of black as well.

You have 9 ponds to monitor?
That's alot of traps!

you don't need to put a trap in each pond...those snakes move around alot at night....and a dinged up fish puts out an odor their little forked tongues can zero in on from a ways off
