View Full Version : A few left to harvest
Hello all
Snapped a few photos of the main pond today. Quite a few left to harvest yet. Figure two more pulls should do the trick.

Keifer, where do you store these after harvesting them, or is this a cull pull?
We pull every week or two as time allows, bringing in four or five vats.....
have never actually counted.....After they settle down a day or two, we return to cull them keeping the very best which we return to a seperate growout pond which I think u viewed last night or this morning. Those are left to grow on until late August mid sept. They are harvested and culled again. I then take the best and most unusaull to large holding tanks (in my back yard  ) were I eventually take pics of them and post them on my website for sale. Hopefully I recover some of the expenses so that I can continue the madness next spring. I do usually keep one or two for myself.

What percentage of culls have deformaties. I'm following Greg's experiences and he seems to have too many. I scooped out 8 with eggs sakcs and none of them are deformed, no beauties from my breeding stock but all healthy little pigs. Maybe it is too soon to tell as they are just hitting a bit over an inch at less than 4 weeks.
Practically none. Have probably removed 6 or 8 with deformaties.
However, the deformaty ratio was much higher when they were being raised from birth in a closed system which leads me to believe that alot of it has to do with early stages of nutrition.

Greg also had problems with cold weather and parasites so I'm sure these are factors as well. Even humans know a baby with a good start stays ahead of the game.
