Thanks Terri, Ian and Jackie for the nice compliments.
Jackie, yes the coloring in the pix is about exact. I believe my iris leaves are probably lacking because I have them planted bare root in the pond but as long as they grow and bloom I don't care.... I actually like the color!
Wish my string algae was gone..... any secrets?

Bonnie I am with you there on the string algae! When I think I have a handle on it POW! I know one of our problems is that the pond is in direct hot sun most of the day. We are about to remedy that. For temp cover until we can get a pergola built over it I have ordered the greenhouse material 50% darkening. That should help. My water is crystal clear except for the strands of string algae. It is so clear it almost hurts your eyes in the sun! If you find a solution let me know! :)

Actually Cinnamon.... the string algae could possibly be one of things which is helping your pond water clear.
If I remember correctly, string algae is supposed to be a cool water algae and will grow more in cool temps....... hopefully the warmer temps will help!

Bonnie our Texas string algae does not behave as such. Believe me our temps now are borderline for the Koi. Everyone I know that has a pond (which are few) is having problems with it right now. Our's thrive in the heat I believe. Temps are ranging from 80 F in the am to 86F in that afternoon. I am freezing milk jugs in case I need them down the road when it really gets hot! My babies tend to stay in the shade of the lillies, water poppies and under the bridge. I hope by putting greehouse shade material over the shallow end it might not get that hot.

I've been using the clay for the string algae and it is mostly gone now. Big clean up problem to get rid of it as it dies... one can not let that part slip even for a day or it just becomes food for more algae. The only thing I accomplished over the last few days with this darn cold is to vac out the pond and clean the skimmer mats. Need to have nap immediately after
Mind the water is not as clear as it was when I had the string algae, no good deed goes unpunished....
