When the ice thawed, I had a great layer of green stuff on the liner, plus some string algae. The weather got warm for a couple of weeks, then turned cold again, and all the green stuff started dying on the liner.
Now that it is turning warm again, finally, it is starting to grow again near the top of the sides,BUT.........the water looks terrible - its a light greenish brown color. I keep testing the water, and everything is testing out ok.
I am cleaning out the filter every other day as it is clogging up. I am shop vacing every 3rd day stuff off the bottom, some of it is in small clumps. And I know that adding water when I do this is helping feed the algae. I have my bio filter going, but I don't think it is doing anything yet. I have a laguna prefilter on my pump - I don't use the filter material in it anymore - was blocking it up to fast. I also added a submersible pump to try to get more of the floating stuff out.....but it seems that is clogging up too - some of the pieces are just too large.
Finally today, I did a PP treatment, and will do another one tomorrow, hopefully it will break down some of the stuff to allow it to go thru the system better.
Question..........why did the green good layer die out in the first place? Was it because it was warm, then turned cold again.
Good thing, my fish are happy, and starting to spawn (altho I don't know if that is a good thing).
