While on a pond tour this summer, I asked at one Koi Pond Center why their ponds were not fenced or anything. They said the peacocks in a cage nearby were enough of a deterrent to keep the herons away. They did not have to be loose ..just able to be heard. Maybe you have room on your property but not me.

Now....if someone could make a motion sensor that squawks like a peacock...maybe it's any idea that would work. Maybe the neighbours would throw something at the heron so they wouldn't have to hear the peacock....

Just an idea I am passing on.

I also posted this on another board. They said peacocks get along with herons. So I guess the pond place I visited will have heron trouble down the road.

I would hate to see that.

I can't see why a peacock would deter a heron.... they don't even eat the same food...

we have them in the area, maybe I should borrow them in the spring...there use to be a house down the road that sold the chicks, I always wanted to get one but really didn't want the mess of pooh and feathers
