View Full Version : I'm so tired of being dyslexic!

I've struggled with this for years... Back in the sixties when the world wasn't up to speed, and teachers just put it down to laziness, I remember having great difficulty with my reading skills - My eyes and brain unfortunately weren't in sync. There was this one teacher in grade 7 that used to give me a hard time due to my poor reading and writing skills. One time after she had graded a pile of class essays, she pointed out the "star examples" of the class and then used my essay as an example of an essay gone wrong. My teacher (Mrs. V.) asked me to come up to the front of the class to review the ones written corretly... (boy, was she messing with the wrong kid). I went up to the front of the class and took the pile of essays and instead of returning to my seat I went to the classroom door and threw them on a side table and left the classroom - Walked home and told my story to my horrified mother. Within an hour Mrs. V. was in the Principles office being reprimanded. She must have been scolded severely as from that day forward she was always sucking up to me trying to win me over, but with no luck.

All this to say, it did leave a scar on me and I've always felt somewhat below grade. That event is something I think about to this very day... with every letter I invert.

Even when I proof read something my brain doesn't catch my errors... Spelllcheck does that for me.

Anyway, thanks for listening - Guess I needed to let off some steam.

HEY! that's nothing to worry about now, you should be getting ready for next few years when you're older, then start forgetting things, losing your hearing, eyesight, getting aches and pain everywhere and start going back to being like a kid again then someone has to help you around and maybe even change your diapers.

I agree with Phil, old age is much worse. I am sure I have oldtimers and can no longer remember my name most days and could never spell or add so switching a few letters around seems minor to me, btw I find I do that now when reading signs... I misread a lot of signs these days.

NP KD, dyslexia is not an easy thing to live with (I have a son with it), but then it is also not the worst problem you could have. Yep years down the road you can just blame it on old age, till the it's just your mind thinking faster then your fingers:grin:....Don't let it get you down, life is to short, and you have so many other talents ....and most of us can read right through spelling mistakes and make them ourselves.

Thanks friends for the great advice! and BTW, old age has already stuck (52). Don't know why I posted this story, but I didn't intend for anyone to think I was feeling sorry for myself, was just curious if any of you had similar stories....
