Well, our city just put in their water restrictions FOR 2010 and gotta tell you this year's regulations are tough!! Normally, in our parts, a dry summer's restrictions occur in August after weeks of extremely hot weather... but GEESUS, it's only frigging May!!!
"NO WATER USE WHATSOEVER - ONLY MODE ALLOWABLE IS BY WATERING CAN"... can (no pun intended) you believe it?
Anyone else expecting the same?

(going to save my bath water from now on!)

No restrictions yet but it's coming.:banghead: Hard to keep up with the water changes when that happens.

Fortunately we get our water from Lake Ontario so I don't expect restrictions but it has been so very very dry here, no rain even during the thunderstorm warnings of Thursday night and none that they promised on Friday morning. Two weeks since rain and then it wasn't enough.
Not here, like Jackie we get ours from the bay. No rain in close to a month for us seems to be everywhere but here.
I'm surprised you have such severe restrictions considering Montreal is surrounded by water. We got a good soak here on Thursday, but the rain was really localized and I know a lot of people who got nothing.
I do expect water restrictions this year, but for us it usually means we can only water outdoors every other day, so you can live with that.

Yup surrounded by water, but the lake is showing its rockery like never before.... some parts you can actually walk out 100 feet or more - Watering every other day (even days for us, address is 8) was the norm here, which we thought was a drag, but no water except by can......:banghead:

so what can you do about water changes. Truck in water for changes once a month? I agree, that is going to be hard going on the garden and the pond not being able to use any water. Hopefully you'll get some decent rain to help on the garden front throughout the summer.

I'm watering today for the second time this year. A garden that gets a lot of water doesn't grow deep roots. Only plants newly planted get regular watering around here and usually when planted, a couple days later and well, when the garden gets watered again. Thrive on neglect I tell them.

Luckily the backyard and pond is covered by the garden.... I can discreetly do water changes without anyone's attention. Rain is expected tomorrow :yeahbaby:

Use the water from the pond to water the garden then fill the pond during the night time.
Our water comes from wells...is pumped to Guelph for chlorination and pumped back...pricey.
So far so good on restrictions but it is getting dryer!
Had rain last night but doubt it was much. Power went out this morning for an hour with no storm in sight. Must get in the pond today to lower the lilies and more edge work. Good day to be in it if no storm comes.
I am just back from a week of 24/7 babysitting my grandchildren....yard has flourished and Koi have grown in my eyes. :yup:
DH has been busy watering.
I must post pictures before the irises are finished. Everything is looking great!

we are on a private well here, and boy we so needed rain also....but we got rain finally tonight, a bit more then I would have liked all at once, just shy of 3 inches in about 2 hours maybe less. Pond was just short of over flowing and fish swimming in the yard, the overflow goes to the lily pond and that overflows to the yard. veggie garden was a bit flooded for a while.

You may be able to take care of the fish despite the water restrictions since they are live animals. I believe Atlanta had some relief when they had serious restrictions there. You may want to check with your water company, etc.
