Need your opinions people - A local chain of pet stores has Dainichi koi food marked down to $36.00 per 11 lb bag. Normally it would retail for $144. at this particular store - It's on markdown due to an expiry date of April 2010. I contacted the Dainichi company and they have expressed that food is still good up to one year after expiry, although a slight loss in the ingredients may exist.

My question is, would you buy a 12 month supply of this food? I already purchased one bag back in January when it was markdown @ $72.00 - Koi love it and it does have great ingredients along with montmorillonite clay.

A penny for your thoughts ~

Thanks!
KD

My 2 cents worth, I would buy it and use it in my food mix. The fish love that food. If Dainichi says it's still good up to a year after expiry, that's good enough for me.

For that price $36.00 you can't loose, but at $144.00 for a 11lbs bag that's a little expensive $13. a lb.

I know, it's insanely expensive food - Thought it was just the Canadian market, but checked out U.S. and prices are still very high. I bet there are people feeding this to their koi @ regular price who don't even spend as much pound for pound on their own food!
:-P

Thanks for the input -

I would buy it. I think that Randall charges 65.00 for 5.5 lbs. It is an expensive food and I use it in my mix. Fish love it and leaves little waste.

If you asked a koikichi they would say - pass ... even with the companies endorsement for using the food - the warning of ingredient quality reduction - mainly the concern would be the oils used as these can become rancid.

Having said that,... it's a very good deal... if you can use the food in less than 6 months... imho.

I give this food to my fish straight... They're like their owner, they don't like anything diluted!!
