These babies were from eggs I took out of the pond at the start of spring.

They are growing up nicely. Did some reading on the breed and it seems it has been rescued from obsurity if not extinction.

I have never heard that Jackie, from what I have read they are so common in Japan they are everywhere and my DD's BF has told me the translation is not Japanese Goldfish but Japanese Gold, I like that much better and will have to add that to my web site sometime soon.
Where was your reference about the rescue from if you can remember?

Gosh Tracey it was the first link when I search and normally I double check everything... but took this little write up as truth. I heard wakin were Japanese Goldfish and very common there. Did a quick search and of course its not there... <LOL> serves me right for not looking more but they were selling them.
