Well she out did you this time. :HAHA:
Yes I did have a good day. Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone.
I took my granddaughter to her dance class.
Came home ready to do something (special?) but DH said we could clean the filter box and more on the pond,
get cleaned up and go out for dinner instead.
So that's what we did.
I know better than to not accept help when offered.
And you know...another year older...I can use the help! :HAHA:

Well I admit it would be a birthday present to me if Smith offered to help clean the filters.

My DH will help do the spring cleanout but that is about it, the rest is up to me.

Your Mrs and my Mr are from the same school. Now he does help but only if I ask. He has told me he loves the pond but if he had to look after it he would fill it in in a heart beat.
It started out as my pond while I dug every day. But once he realized what/how I was making the pond, he started to "see the light".
He helped me find "level" for my raised walls, carry in the liner and then became involved with the large stones.(Thank goodness).
The more we worked on the pond, the more it became our pond.
Now it really is "our pond". So we clean it together and enjoy it together. :yup:
Glad I did it last year though.....I don't have as much steam for big projects.
Guess that's what comes from getting older.... :HAHA:
Now to "enjoy the fruits of our labour".

Well, I was counting on you, but since you're living lifestyles of the rich and famous, I'll have to look elsewhere!
KD
:HAHA:
Well, one Lockstone walkway finished from the patio around the end of the pond and up to the filterbox. I will have to plant in more of the gardens on both sides as I decided on a narrower path. That will be much safer when carrying filter mats or?
I took out the Japanese Maple from the left of the filter...it would only make it more difficult for maintenance. Now to figure out where to put it....near the pond.
Yuck! I noticed many Crimson King Maple seeds just getting ready to drop in the same area as the walkway and also into the pond. That wll be work to keep out.
Guess the work is never done.

Marg, sounds like someone else besides me is busy in the yard....now they can stop picking on me.... We had a beautiful large maple near our pond when we first put it in, gave us lots of shade. Same thing though, seed pods and tons of leaves. When our 2nd fall came DH cut it down....we still get leaves in the pond from all over, and we also have no shade.
Would you have cut it down since you still get many leaves from other trees?
Your beautiful yard and pond is very open to having other trees leaves blow in. Do you really get a lot less leaves with it gone?
We spent an arm and a leg getting this one so I don't think it's leaving.
It is realy not situated to give us shade as much as it will shade the pond later.
So we put up a gazebo (metal posts and cloth roof) so that we could have much needed instant shade.
Now we can sit out and enjoy our pond. :)
Yes Marla, we have been busy and with two people doing it...jobs are going much faster. Does that mean we will be doing more jobs? Or maybe we are slowing down and need two people to do what one could have done if we were younger?:phfft:
I will have to post some pictures when I have the gardens planted beside the walk. By then more plants should be blooming.

Sooner or later we would have had to cut it down before it fell....it had a large split at the fork all the way to the ground. It was not real wide yet, but someday it may have split worse. Our yard is bordered by spruce, yet we have lots of trees within the yard, even the large maple in the front the leaves blow over the roof. The pond is netted all year, with the exception of right in front of the waterfall, and it is amazing how many leaves still get in the pond in the fall.
Please do post some pics, if I ever get around to it this year I may get some posted also.....last year things dried up so bad the yard looked all brown not so pretty.

Well I have one little tree between that and the neighbour's maple I have enough leaves to deal with, can't wait till the maple is mature then I will have to clobber him for all the extra work.

That's why a skimmer is worth it, the leaves float in and you scoop them out.
philly
05-26-2009, 08:32 AM
Remember I mentioned to you that I bought the skimmer 5 years ago just haven't got around to installing it, been too busy going to the cottage and on trips maybe sometime soon now that the cottage is sold. :crybaby:

The time you save netting out leaves will make up the difference of installation time.

Who said anything about netting out leaves, all I was thinking was it's hard work removing the filter basket to empty it. :HAHA:
