View Full Version : Look What I Can See
Can you see it to or I'm I seeing things :HAHA:
And the best for last. My how they have grown.
All six are there. You can just see Mr Grey in the 3rd pic. He is at the bottom/center of the pic. No sign of Zero yet, will have to wait and see about him.

Peg,
Wow, Lucky you!!! It'll be weeks before I see grass, a few feet deep to say the least. Can't even see my fish ice is sooooo thick!!! I'm praying that all will be ok but I have a funny feeling I'm in for a surprise once ice melts.

Nice that you get to see them. My pond is opening up but I can't see fish yet. I went in the checked the indoor guy and he is fine and so are the others. Haven't seen the little yellow one in a month or so and am beginning to think Tweet ate him but the orange and white one and Guppy are there.
Always hard to find the little ones. Do you know how I can move this post ????

OK Peg, rub it in make us green with envy but it's good to see that most of your koi are in good health, :yup: we will just have to wait a Little bit longer before the rest of us can look at ours kois. :yesyes:
Don't let that little patch of grass fool you. There is still a tone of snow here. The cover is the only reason I can see my guys right now. Here's wishing for the warmth to say. KD hope you get some warmth soon it's a realy spirit lifter. Don't worry to much about the fish, just keep an eye on the water.

I saw two of mine today, Alice and the rescue fish. Both belly down so that's good news :HAHA:
Peg, under the edit button you canmove or delete threads.
Glad to hear that you got to see some of the gang. Belly down is way better then belly up :yup:
Jackie, I can't find anything that said move only delete
Well done girlfriend, Thanks deleted the other
Wow...you are so lucky that you can see your fish still alive. That's great!
Its also nice to clear off your deck. I did mine too. I am still watching for any fish. The ice is melting a bigger hole and I keep hoping for a peek.
As for grass...I have about a 6" wide strip along the sidewalk. That's rewarding in itself.
Enjoy your fish family......I can see Mr. Grey in all of your pictures after reading where to look. Hope you see Zero too.
Jackie- what a thought ...... :HAHA: "Belly down" but it does make sense in the fish world. Glad to hear yours are belly down too.

We also have had some nice warm sunny days....I have lots of grass showing, as for the ponds, still lots of ice. I have seen quite a few goldfish in the lily pond, DH said he saw a little orange and white fish in the main pond, I think it may have been one of the baby goldfish as even the little koi are larger then what he said he saw. PH has fallen a bit, about 7.8 but KH is still 20 drops and if I 10x's that it's 200 so hopefully it will not fall more.....I'm trying hard not to frett....DH who always says I worry to much has even been looking for fish this year, the long cold spell has even him worried. Weds I leave for our sisters annual scrapbooking weeend and so I won't be able to keep an eye on things, but hoping it will be all fine.
Long way to go before I get to see grass at my place. The pond has opened up a lot, but not enough to see fish yet. I'm hoping by Tuesday evening when I get home from work I'll be able to see them. That's after the drive to work in the Freezing rain Tuesday morning. :banghead:

Marla, don't worry listen to DH although sometimes we're never right just joking, :HAHA: your reading is around the same as mine but the most important thing is that it's stable and does not fluctuate way too much, just go to your sisters annual scrap-booking weekend enjoy yourselves and when you return you can check the pond hopefully the ice and snow will be all gone by then. :-)

Cindy, I think we both have to wait a bit longer, :yup: I just checked my pond and the opening was much smaller around 11/2', last night was pretty cold and might take much more warmer weather to melt all the ice and snow so we have to be a little more patient. Eventually we won't have to go out in our coats and we can enjoy the pond a lot more soon. :yesyes:

Still can't see any, another month or so of not knowing. This sucks
Enough ice off the pond for me to see some of the fish when I got home. Looked like Betty and Veronica, the white one was a little hard to tell, as I have such a knack at turning so many fish white. :HAHA:
Near the bottm by their favorite lotus pot, just where they should be. I'm a happy camper.

Don't know why in my area the pond is still frozen the opening is less than 2' near the waterfall, guess I will have to wait as the koi are all in the deep end and that's frozen solid. :banghead:

Had a quick peek this am and saw Doodle so 4 now, Alice was moving around as was the rescue fish but the real big ones are down and hiding.
String algae grew a foot over night.
I can't believe the string algae I have too. I'll be hauling some of that out tonight and tomorrow.

Had a look at the pond the opening is not even 2' x 5' yet and the waterfall has been running all winter long, guess I have to be patient and wait it out instead of trying to break up the ice and end up harming the koi. :yesyes: I'm happy that you girls are seeing some of your koi and everything is looking good so far. :yup:
Your pond sounds like it's taking it's time thawing out Philly. Maybe it doesn't get the same amount of sun that we do. I remember you saying how thick the ice got on your pond too and thinking that's a lot thicker than the ice that forms on mine.
Cindy
:-? DH saw a couple of fish from our bedroom window and called me. I did too! I did! :yesyes:
Tried taking a couple of pictures when I went outside but they disappeared. I am so glad to see some life. I have algae as well.
Will watch again tomorrow.:yup:
So happy to see some. Hope you all can see some of yours. Come on Spring!
:greatday:

After the warmth today there in only 2 little chunks of ice left in the pond. Can see all the fish plane as day, all the way at the bottom. Nice and clear. Will do a water change on the weekend and maybe that will bring Zero out of hiding.
Glad to hear some of you have had happy sightings. Those of you that haven't, hang in there it won't be long now.

Philly don't feel bad, mine is at least 85% or more ice covered....open water maybe 5' circle. I know though the ice in the center had to be 10'' or more thick. I've seen no fish in the main pond, only a few goldfish in the lily pond. It'll probably be a April before I see them.

The opening in my pond isn't that big I just scrunch down and peer in to see what I can see. Saw GG today so she is still with us. She was the only one I was really worried about because of her tumour. Saw a few others tails pointed the right way so I will assume they are fine. One seemed to have strange marks but he moved before I could get a good look, maybe tomorrow maybe just water reflection.
3/4 of the pond was ice free when I got home today. Saw all the originals. They're a little more active today and all look good. Didn't spot any of last years babies yet. I hope to be able to see some of them tomorrow following that deluge of rain we're supposed to get. That'll take care of the rest of the ice for sure.
Netted out some string algae and really enjoyed doing it. Must be getting spring fever.
Pond is certainly very full with all the snow and ice melt. I'll have to do a water test tomorrow when I get home, especially with all the rain to come. All my years of testing, it's never seemed to budge my PH/GH/KH numbers. I have no idea why, but I'll take whatever breaks I get.

Cindy, for some reason the snow plies up on the front of my driveway during the winter time and does not melt as fast as my neighbors driveways. :banghead: The pond seems to do the same thing even though the back yard gets full sunshine. :yesyes:

Marla, that's about the same size opening that I have at the moment but I hope we get to see our koi before April, as that's almost over two months away and that's quite a long time to wait.

Cindy, Marg and Peg glad to see that almost all the ice have melted on your ponds and the kois are all doing great, you all are having a good start for the spring and Jackie is getting there slowly behind you girls. I guess Marla and myself will have to wait for the days to warm up quickly, just hope our koi are all doing fine. After all what will be will be. :-)

Oh Sal, I am sooo sorry. What a tragedy. Hugs to you, I know how badly you feel.
Do you have any guesses to what went wrong? PH crash is often the cause of this, can you test your KH?
Again, hugs to you.
Just know we are all here for you. { {{ Hugs}} }

Oh that's terrible. I know how you feel, I lost all of mine last winter. I just got that same knot in my tummy that I had then when I saw your pic.
How horrible for you.
