Guppies freezing

I hvae two small ponds about 700 gallons. One I am using as a QT pond the other I have guppies in. I had guppies and sword tails in last year in one of my small ponds . They did very well. This year I put them out a few weeks ago when the weather got hot. We have now had a long spell of cold weather. I have put an aquarium heater in the pond. The poor things are staying right on top of it. I hope they make it. I have enjoyed the little guys in the pond. They are bright and don't destroy the pond when they breed. They are great for mosquitoes.

I'm worried about my poor guppies as well. Didn't think to put a heater in... :doh: But I have a few in several different pots. Still have a tank full of the little devils but that doesn't mean I want to write off the ones outside.

Lost 2 then put the heater in. Now they just stay there. I do like the "Little Devils". They are a change from the koi. All the colours and the movement is nice. Don't know why the southerners don't have them in their ponds all year.

I think some do but mostly misquito fish are what they use.

My betta is doing great in his "puddle" pond :grin:

Would be nice if the warm weather came and stayed... tired of this hot cool stuff :( and I'm sure the fish are too.

From the way they keep betta's I bet he thinks that 5 gallon puddle is the ocean.

Guppies now are swimming around not staying on the heater.

Glad to hear they warmed up and are moving around. I have a feeling it is going to be a cooler then normal summer and wetter also.

I thought we had murdered the few guppies I put in the Totem pond as Smith lowered it and then refilled it without adding dechlor. Saw all 7 today swimming around eating misquito larvae. need more fish in there the skeeters are winning.
