All the rest are holding their colour just fine, but Archie is fading fast. First 3 pics are from when we first got him in April. First pic he's on the left trying to spawn with midge. He's the middle fish in the second pic. Last pic is today.

Where did you get him? How old is he? What type of food are you feeding? Some koi colouring does fade but his is fading fast.

He's just a garden centre mutt I'm afraid. I was expecting to have issues with him and the black and white when it comes to fading. I seem to have a real knack for creating white koi. :HAHA: They get fed a mixture of Danichi growth pellets, freeeze dried whole shrimp, freeze dried meal worms, marzuri pellets and tetra koi sticks right now. Waiting to get the hi-silk in the mix, should have it by the end of next week. He can't be much more than a year old.

He sure did fade fast. Looks like the sumi is still there, he may be like Itzi only black and white in the winter under the ice but I think the red is gone for good.

From what I've read, food has little effect on fading hi. Perhaps someone can weigh in on this? What I've read is that food can enhance pigment that is already there, but if the pigment goes for other reasons--genetics, water parameters, temperature, stress--colour intensifiers will not bring it back and would not have kept it from going.

Thoughts?

Too much colour enchanced food can turn a white fish pink, but it isn't really attractive :HAHA:

Ewwww, a pink fish. That would be horrible.
He's still pale as pale can be. Growing well, eating well. All the others including Reggie (the black and white) are all fine colour wise. I haven't had much luck with fish that I've named Archie. I hope with this one it's just fading colour and not anything more sinister than that.

Maybe you should change his name to get his colour back

:HAHA: Yes, maybe I should change his name.
He's even paler now, it's gotta be genetic, none of the other fish are fading at all.
