!strut There's been a suggestion made that possibly the folks of this board would enjoy a plant trade/swap forum. If there's enough interest, this sticky will become it's own forum.
Maybe someone you know has extra plants/seeds that they'd like to swap for something different, or just to thin things out, will accept postage in return.
Please keep in mind your zone and climate when making your choices and if the plant/seed in question is accepted into your area. Some plants are banned from being planted and we don't want to see you end up behind bars:()
You may state wish lists or if you have an item for trade/sale, then the person may be contacted by email or PM.
Have fun and let the growing begin!!strut

Is it just to early and no ones plants are ready to be split? Seeds you have stashed away could be looking for a new home...
Anyone?
*I want to try some purple poppy's*

I'm just sorting through seeds ect.now to see what I have and after I've planted I'll be able to share.
Yes, its still a bit early for shipping anything but hardy seeds. I can send the poppy now as it over winters as seed. The plants are annuals.

Jackie,
How much do you want for some seeds. I only have holly hocks to trade, but I would like to buy some if you don't need holly hock seeds.

I don't know if we took any pics last year. I will look on the other puter and see if there are any. They aren't coming up yet, but I still have the stocks with the seed pods on them from last year.

What colours are they and do they get that nasty rust??? I have a fence I'd like to disguise, there were hollyhock there but they were the old ones that by July looked just terrible so I tore them out.

I have a lot of Datura seeds if anyone would like them. I just can't ship to Florida as they are illegal there. They are a purple double trumpet. Here they are! I acutally had triple trumpets last year. My friends at the Nursery said they had never seen a triple bloom come up. But here it is.

Jackie they are suppose to be annuals here. I did have 7 plants make it through the winter though
Busy B the flower makes a big seed pod. That is how I got all the seeds. I probably have 5 lbs of seed from this year alone!
Jackie let me know where are ready ;)

I'll have some varigated water celery and a black Iris that I can part with when the weather warms a bit more. I'll have to see what else I can crop up around here, but generally at the end of summer I do have lots of seed for columbine, and rose campion, both pink and white. Root starts for Bishops Weed and I'll just have to see what else crops this year! I just planted some nice stuff last year I have no clue what it is.. Pictures when its up and blooming.
I'm actually wanting some different types of Lily, (I have white and one firecrest, 2 wild variety) winter hardy and/or a nice Lotus. So if anyone has some lil ol tubers they can part with reasonable, that would be sweet! :)

Cinnamon, do you still have the Datura seed? I would love some if you do, my Angel Trumpets are starting to bloom and that sure would be pretty near the yellow one.

They are gorgeous aren't they Charla? Didn't you just have your pond redone/cleaned? And you threw away a bunch of plants...you bad girl you!
I'm in the same boat as you Kathy..I want more lilies...checked out Ebay today but I'm a touchy/feely kinda gal and want to see what I'm buying. Don't want baby tubers!

Charla yes I have Datura seeds  If you would like I can send you some. email me your address since you are in California and I will get them right out to you. My crop last year were over 5' tall! All these seeds came from that crop. I am waiting for the okay from Jackie to send hers. I will when it stops snowing! I know I can't send to Florida as they are against the law! Just as water hybiscus here and water lettece I think. But Datura are banned for a different reason in Florida.

Busy, yep my pond is clean and sparkley, the kids are following me around begging for food & some lilys are blooming.
I didn't toss many plants, the guys that cleaned it up took good care to keep them all sorted and with good roots. They are doing several new installs this week that I provided plants for. They really make out, I pay them to clean up ... they charge to plant them in a new pond.

I guess that's better than becoming compost
I managed to save some of my stuff and brought it in for the winter..the elephants ear's are getting big but look like they need food. Some of it, I'm not sure what it is..umbrella palm? getting way tall and floppy...a good wind and it'll be flat..bummer.
One lily that needs to go in something bigger I see has set a bud but I'm running out of wet places to store/grow them...come on summer!

Yes, I've sort of looked over ebay and aqua bid as well. I've been leery about buying anything from those places, especially since they started turning up scam stuff more often and visa versa.
I think what gets me is for Salem being such a big city, there's not much of anything. Lowes, Home Depot and one koi & pond place. Very poor selections. I don't trust those packages of dry lily tubers, most of them look moldy! Last time I was in there, I sort of walked out. :( Haven't been back since.
Pickerel is another plant I think would be nice, blue and pink!

I have some rain lily bulbs I can share as well. Found them in the greenhouse. I'll have to find a pic but they are marginals, tropicals and look like white crocus except they bloom all summer.

I think all my pickerels, froze out, along with an Iris, and maybe a cattail. Maybe it's just to early to tell. I think it's a marsh marigold and it already has buds on it. Need that warm weather to come back, the last couple days have been cooold. Not quite the time yet to look around here for plants. This weekend I'm going to start harding off my tropicals I brought in and planted in the fall.

The only thing showing life in my pond is the marsh marigolds and the lilies planted deep. Reminds me I probably have lilies to share as well. Nothing fancy though but hardy. I think the tropical I overwintered in the greenhouse is dead.....

Im looking for purple taro. Ive got plenty of verigated sweet flag.

Jackie,
I don't really know a Japanese from a Siberian, but I "think" these are Japanese. Don't Siberian have thinner , grassier leaves and go dormant? These stay all year. If this is what you are looking for I will need to divide this fall or whenever I'm supposed to.

The blooms on those are too big to be siberian so they must be Japanese. Great colour!! Yes divisions in the fall. Japanese Iris are very much like the bearded iris except they like their soil moist and bearded prefer dry hot sunny spots. Let me know when you divide them and we'll work something out.
Charla
04-16-2005, 02:51 AM
Just a thought ... you are in a much colder climate than I am, if I were to divide some when they finish blooming they would have a chance to recover , grow new roots, send up some new leaves and harden off for your fall and winter. Does this make sense?
These iris are in the gravel in about 2 - 3 inches of water at the edge of the catch basin, they stay there year round. I imagine you would have to bring them in or mulch them into a border for the winter. I have lots of bearded iris ... hot, dry and sunny I can provide. Dutch and Spanish iris do well here too.
I would be more than happy to share with you, you have helped me with so many guestions and problems.

Charla, I can't say no to plants  Thank you for your most generous offer. Yes, if you split them after blooming it would give them time to settle in here before winter. I want to put them in the bog so they won't be moved once in. The fact that they are in gravel is a plus because we can't send dirt across the border just bare root plants.
I have some iris coming up now if anyone is intrested let me know

KBA, since you'll be coming by shortly, I'll take a couple of those iris. I'm redoing the front bed and they will look nice there.
