I would like to advertise more about the koi website that I've been working on, but am having a difficult time finding places to trade links, or to gain attention with. The company is still fairly new, and I'm still learning about the marketing aspect of it.
If anyone has any ideas of places that list links to other companies, or places to advertise selling koi and koi products in Canada, can you please let me know?
Thanks.

Welcome to Koi Reflections.
Koi, pond and water garden clubs are one place to start - several have new letters that offer commercial business ads for small fees. Those that have web sites may offer ad placement or links as well.
Submitting your business web site to online directories is another avenue - generally these are 'free'.
I've been where you are, takes time but an online presence is a start - a good web site is a plus. If you are well liked by your customers word of mouth is the best advertising one could ask for.

I agree Terri, word of mouth will make you or break you.
I've tried those business directories and frankly the spam mail is quite an issue, not sure they ever gave me any mail but spam. My website, although not a koi business has been up and running for 4 years and now is when people are starting to find me.

In my opinion, trust is the number one factor in a relationship between a dealer and his/her customers. I got taken for a ride by a breeder here in the west and I have learned my lesson. Example: he was trying to sell me a 3 inch asagi or $125 and after I declined it he told me I would have had to nurture the little fellow because he was 2 1/2 years old! Shame on him first to try to sell me that, and shame on him second for even telling me he was going to sr :censored:w me. Would he have told me if I had purchased the fish? I doubt it. The list of stories from him goes on and on... A very unscrupulous person.
"Shame on you if you rob me once, shame on me if you rob me twice."
Honesty goes a long way. The word gets out either way. I never returned to the breeder...
I am sure that building a clientele is a long process but loosing it is an even faster one.
