I'm going to have to work with mine this summer, last summer I felt good cause I could get them to come to the same spot to feed, but they were a little skiddish.

Kiefer, do you have any fingers left or did they leave the you the bone? Marla, when you start feeding them this spring feed them less than you normally would I think the pros say no more that once a day and no more than they eat in five minutes. Others told me to not feed them for a couple days, I couldn't do that to my pets so I start them with no more than they can eat in about a minute and work up. Don't worry if one does not get food, it will probably the first to the plate the following day. Allen

It also depends on how many fish are in the pond or tank. Both Terri and Keifer have many fish in one tank, so the fish feel very safe in the big school, I have 3 babies and one nasty in a tank and they all hate me even if I don't feed them for days. Now if I had 20 babies in that tank they weould be friendlier when food came. Well that's my theory anyway.
To a certain degree, Jackie is right, It is much easier to tame a koi when introduced into a pond with other tame koi. There is definitly a pack mentallity when it comes to most fish. The trick is patience and consistency. Once u win one or twoover, its all down hill :D

All mine (fish) are shy! They won't let me near them, I have to stand and toss the food, they don't like it if I get to close!

My inside guys are like that. Mostly because I haven't really spent time with them and also the big one is not friendly has never been friendly at at almost 15 will probably never become friendly. Koi certainly have their own personalites.

Last night I had my hand in the water securing some airline tubing. Those dang japanese koi were sucking all over my fingers. One of them got ahold of a wart on the backside of my hand, and It felt like he ripped the skin off my hand. :-? OUCH, you little squirt. Well, not so little 18" kohauku I guess
