First let me say that I support Canadian shopping first. I buy Canadian where ever I can. I thought I would look around and compare prices with the dollar being what it is. Mostly for pond supplies & meds. I ordered some things from Pondrx. Ted is a great guy to deal with. I was able to order Prazi to treat the pond three times. if & when needed. When all is said and done there was a 50.00 differance in price. And that was after shipping was included. A better deal then where I would get it from here in Canada. Not much differance in product price, but no handling charge and a huge differance in shipping. Good way to stock up on meds. This is not intended to promote cross boarded shopping or Ted. Just a heads up to everyone trying to save some money. More money saved, more fish in the pond :yup: . A win/win situation in my book. Oh! & the :koi: will definitely be Canadian

A nice heads up Peg, every time I try to order something from the US they want big shipping and then customs wants theirs and it ends up not worth the bother. I must be doing something wrong.

Snail mail is the only way to go, definately avoid UPS, they put everything through their brokerage firm so you have to pay the fees. They also want to charge you duties 'just in case you owe them'!! I've had them try ot charge me after I prepaid the shipping an additional 68.00! for a 40.00 item. I hate UPS :HAHA:

The canadian dollar should help drop the price for pond products in general. More so if it stays up till spring and canadian shops can bring in new stock at a different price.
I thought nothing went across the border these days without broker fees?? The post office will charge the fee??? Terri would know better than I...
Had to help out a few people this year that bought south of the border that the retailer would not support so buyer beware....

In my experience the post office minds its own business, now customs may or may not open the package and decided if you need to pay duty but brokerage, no you don't need to pay that unless a broker brings it into the country for you. A nice racket that UPS uses for extra money.

And we all thought we had free trade

Paying duty at the post office depends on how the sender filled out the paper work and what the item(s) is... no brokerage fees apply.

You need to ask for delivery options. Most US businesses will ship US Post but only if you ask them too - mainly because it means an employee has to go to the post office to mail it where as USPS or Fed-EX will come to the shop to pick up the items to be shipped (if the business has an account with them).
