I was in Walmart last week and say an all white koi. I brought it home and didn't realize how nice it was till I got him/her into the pond. WOW...it just glows.

I thought my white koi with the red spot on the head was white, but now it looks pink next to the white one.

What is the clasification for an all white koi?

hey brent... is your new koi 'metallic', real shinny? or more like a soft snow white...?

Sounds like you got yourself a Platinum (purchina) Ogon. Ogons are metallic, this is part of the reason it may look 'whiter' than your tancho kohaku (who is not metallic).

Hi Brent. A Koi that is all white is called a Platinum Ogon. If it has reflective scales it would be a Gin Rin Platinum Ogon like this one.

I am so happy with my find. It really glows, so I think it would be a gin rin. I'd like a pond full of them.

I'm going to be the party pooper here.... Did you quarantine that fish before adding it to the pond. Walmart fish are notorious for being parasite ridden.

No I didn't. All but one fish in my pond are from walmart. I am fining out that nature seems to take better care of things than I do. It seems that the more I try to care for fish...the more they die. I have minnows and carp that seem to do best under the worst conditions(no airation, no real feed).

I will be quarentining new arrivals now that I am getting more fish in my pond. Like anything, the more animals, birds, or fish you have in one spot, the higher the risk of something going wrong.

Ok, that sounds like a plan.

You are right, many kill their fish with kindness trying to heal them.
