Ian dug this in a couple of hours 2 days after we moved into our new house in 2003 ... It's not done as the koi pond took priority  (meaning the koi pond got all the rocks and more attention!!)

I'm hoping to finish it this summer, actually I'd like to move it.. sort a "discussion" Ian and I have been having.
and a few pics of plants...

Where are you planning to move the pond to? Heaven knows you have enough places to choose from

I was thinking the front yard... I have a plan in my head, maybe if I put it on paper Ian might be more willing

In the front would be nice. Still it would be a shame to waste that hole... how about a bog pond there and a bridge so the bog looks part of thekoi pond... I'll find enough work for Ian to do

We did have a nicer one...didn't go to 40 below only 25...hehe..

I've got a few that made it thru in the ghouse...left some lilies in the pond just to see how they would do...

to me it seems as every winter gets colder and longer, must be old age. However there was one winter I think 1982, we got to -86 with the wind chill. That winter the water pipes burst in our north walls, what a mess!

Marla, I am NOT visiting you in the winter time

marla

That was only once. Usually we do get a couple weeks of like -15--20 or so, but usualy it's in the teens- 20's, nice when it's sunny like today. The older I get the more I hate the winter.

I'm with you on that one! Ever since North Dakota, I really dislike the wind..one of those things that just chills you to the bone..

At the top of the state, it's common here. If you spit, it freezes before it hits the ground

Hey I am a hot blooded southern Belle, do you think I would stick my pinkie toe in cold that ?? !rofl Terri nice little pond there. I hope I can get my plants going soon. I am working on it.

Well I couldn't take it anymore!!! I re-worked the area where the water returns to the pond and I quite like it - big improvement. There was a lot of liner just sitting there not being used (total waste really LOL). It's sort of like a little stream, two small pools for settlement and marginal plants that just like their "feet" wet. I didn't have enough flat rocks to finish the wall but it's coming along.

Not too many plants doing much yet, the bog bean is just finishing flowering and two of my 4 lilies are finally breaking the surface(I think I lost one as there seems to be no sign of life in the pot!). A friend stopped by this weekend and brought me some parrots feather, a taro(gawd I hope I don't kill it!!), some water crest, and a water iris(don't kow which colour but I hope it's yellow!) - it was rather a nice surprise to receive these living gifts.

Ahhhh getting your fingers wet eh?

I like it! Does look bigger in the redo second pic but maybe that's cause of the angle of the first shot?

Nice friend! New plants are always a bonus

Terri

No Jackie, I didn't let him have another Nexus, he had to build another filter to replace it on the tank it was being used on  , he did a fab job too. Will post that in his barrels away thread.

Busy my hand were so sore, dry and cracking. I love piddling around in the gardens and ponds but my hands suffer for it. I also have some sort of allergic reaction to two types of bacteria in "fish" water, makes me break out in little red welts. This was something that happened years ago and my doctor could not figure it out at first, we finally put two and two together - his advice, stay out of the water - yeah right LMAO.

Couple years ago during set net season (put a big net in the water, wait for the tide, and pull salmon after) oldest son had a cut on his hand..few days later a trip to the doc and he had an infection from handling the fish.

My hands get tore up this time of year and I don't wear gloves, but what about those surgical gloves when your messing in the water?

Jackie Ramo

I have several different gardening glaves and work gloves around here but seldom are they on my hands. The exception is when working with roses or the raspberry bushes. I have finally leaned that lesson...

Terri I recommend bag balm on your hands when you are finished with the pond and gardens for the day. Once on washup when you come inside and again before going to bed. Has an antisecptic in it so may help with the itching and will certainly help with the dry and cracking sking. For myself I prefer Glaxal Base which is made by the Glaxal drug company and is the base for all types of perscription creams. Most drug stores carry it.
