My yearly pair of late mallards appeared this evening while I was out putting my spring feeding of manure around the roses. That's all I need.

Landed in the pond with us no more than 10 feet away. Took a bit to scare them off too. The hubby looked quite amusing running up to the pond flapping his arms like a big duck  Now that would have made a good picture.
Takes weeks of scaring them off before they finally decide to find a better spot to nest. :banghead:
It'll be easier this year for sure with the hubby home and working out in the yard. Maybe they'll get the drift a little faster.

Couldn't sleep the other morning and went out to see the fish around 6ish... 2 mallards decided they were going to land NOT!!! but made me wonder if they had been there before or not. Smith gets up around 6:30 7 to let the dogs out so they are not around after that.

Don't be sending your ducks here any more Cindy :phfft:

I've got a big sign beside the pond with your address on it :HAHA:

Damn things fly at night so they could be out there right now. Just sent the hubby out to check. If I had a pond twice this size, I wouldn't mind quite so much, but with all the problems I've been having, I don't need ducks too.

I still blame the ducks for my die off. One year two mallards landed in the pond and two weeks later my fish started dying. Lost all but 2, I'd had these fish for 9 years at that point with no sickness or issues of any kind. I still have old Tweet. Lost his good twin Sweet a couple of years after that.

Knock on wood, haven't had that problem yet and that's fine with me. Hoping that with the new pond form the air it does not look any more inviting. There is plenty of marshland in the area for them.

Speaking of ducks..................They are ours, just don't have the heart to get rid of them. They have a fenced in area but tend to get out daily and go straight for the pond. They must think it's was dug for them :)

Don't let the lots of marshland around fool you Marla. I have a huge floodplain and marshes that run for miles beside the CN tracks beyond my backyard. Still get the ducks....they seem to prefer to be on their own while nesting....a private pond is perfect in their eyes. I wish I had some way of knowing if it's the same pair that keeps coming back.

I've learned the hard way too, don't just toss some food in for the fish and not wait until they've finished eating it before you leave the side of the pond...the ducks fly over, see the food and they're even harder to get rid of if they think they'll get a daily snack.

Badeye, Cute ducks, but they poop a lot. Considering the problems you were having do you think there is a connection? Does the pond have a bottom drain for waste removal?

Badeye, think those cuties need a wading pool of their own. clm, no ducks yet over the years, but always waiting. was going to put out some decoys last year and DH said I'd attract them so I didn't.
