Where do you get your pond plants? Do you buy online, do trades, local stores? If online, who are your favorites?

Pond plants what are they? LOL Sorry no pond plants here.

I know lot of people use eBay for plants. The main thing is finding plants that do well in your area.

I have plants.. in the water garden. We have 2 terrific growers here in Ontario that I buy from, one is mail order if I don't feel like the 3 hr drive. I only like to deal with natives that grow well in my zone, tropicals take up space in the winter and I don't have the time for the care they need(nor the will to do so). BUT I do like floaters like water hyacinth and lettuce... good compost material at the end of the season.

I've traded plants too, but not often.

Don't kid yourselves, Terri comes and steals mine. I buy and also trade with other ponders in the koi or watergarden club. Friends have thoughtfully sent me gifts in the mail  and I freely admit, going to my parents property on the river and digging up what appeals to me... all of them have to be treated for hitchikers before going into the pond.

Tom did you start out with the layout of your pond as it is now?

Did you never have a water garden?

Last year when I ordered my perennials, I tried to look out for more of the bog plants..wasn't many..

Hey Bee, Have you heard of the Tricker Company? I get my plants from them and I have had good luck with them. I know they ship all over.

Haven't Denise but I'll do a search...

I had this site on my favorites cause it had descriptions of the different varieties of koi and just browsing now I find they have quite a bit on their site

Pretty nice site...and now I'm dreamin' of lilies...I didn't know they could get so spendy tho..

No Lowe's in our area...a new HD a few miles away but their not carrying pond plants...not enough interest in the area. One of the local nurseries carry's some mini lilies but you pay dearly..If I had to Anchorage I can pick up a few...just a 300 mile round trip

I buy most of my pond plants from one of my suppliers up in the valley.

He gets most of them from overseas, as he is from England.
They have GREEN thumbs over there. :D

Why thank you Jack and welcome to the forum!

I browsed her site today and man it looks nice! I keep trying to find suppliers on the west coast so I don't pay so much for shipping but I've heard nothing but good things about her.

I do not have many plants what I have bought in the past if from ebay. My hyacinths died over the winter because I neglected them and they got over run with string algae. So I went to ebay to buy some more and ended up buying water lilies that I know nothing about keeping. I know lilies grow in the ditch here very badly and they take over so you do not even see the water. My husband thinks I am nuts buying them off ebay when I can go dig them up for free. But the only thing in the ditch blooms white or pink I wanted something different and did not want to put something in my pond that I would not know is OK even if I did do a bleach soak first. So ebay it is.
