Just got into keeping goldies in an aquarium in October. I've kept comets and other single tail types in the pond before but never any fantails in the pond as they're more delicate and never kept any types in an aquarium before, so switched the tank over from tropicals to goldies and now I've got 6 fantails and 1 moor. Much bigger now than when I took these pics, but here they are just the same. The aquarium is 100 US gallons. Loads of fun to watch. Basically the same care as a pond on a much smaller scale, lots of filtration, weekly water changes and testing and a varied diet. Sinking food with these guys or they can end up with swim bladder problems. My husband calls them stomachs with fins, they love to eat....follow you if you walk past the tank hoping for a meal.

A nice tank indeed. I'll not post pics of my little mess. mostly guppies and soon tobe more guppies. But its acted as a sick tank for koi in a pinch. Saw a 55 gallon on the freecycle list but couldn't think of where I'd put it...

Nothing wrong with guppies. Great addition to the pond if you have any mosquito problems. I used to add a bunch every summer from my aquarium and bring back in what I could catch in the fall. They and their fry make a good source of live food for bigger pond fish too.
Not to mention that they are pretty little fish in their own right.

Actually these particular guppies were from Terri's watergarden this summer. I put 7 in the lotus pot for skeeter control but found a large dragonfly larvae living there, so managed to save 4 guppies. 2 male 2 female.

BTW Terri, the cichild didn't eat the babies, they have suddenly appeared again.

Good news Jackie,... but he's not a cichlid ;) rather a Dwarf Neon Rainbow Fish (Melanotaenia praecox)

Oh, so you lied when you gave them to me.... :frisbee:

I now have 16 or more new babies. No one gets fed for 3 days!!! If it works for koi birth control it should work for guppies.

Too funny,

They don't call them millions fish for nothing. Maybe you should get yourself a pretty betta to add to the tank to keep your guppy population under control.

I thought the australian whatits were supposed to do that but even though they always seem starving they must be too well fed. I don't think the male whatits will let a betta alone, mind the male guppies seem to do alright.
