Well, it's all about ponds isn't it? Koi, fish, ya know what I mean... ;-)

An indoor greenhouse 7,000 gallon pond. Belongs to a friend and club member. Many years in the making, pretty cool at that.

This is his natural pond this past fall when Eugene was harvesting his koi.

The old koi pond... can't believe the people who bought our old house ripped this out! Ok, they kept a little part of it... it's a puddle now LOL

Your dad's indoor pond was my absolute favorite of all the indoor ponds I'd ever seen until I saw the first picture you posted. Now, that one and the one that Art Lembke built into his new house are my ideals! I'd love to have a conservatory connected to my house to house all my tropical plants and orchids, with a great big pond in it! Oh well, if I ever win the lottery...

Wow that is some natural pond <:o . Question: where did he empty the water , and how long does it take to refill it :?: , Love the indoor pond and the clever way that the filters are hidden .

All great ponds..Thanks for the pics Ian..

I remember Terri posting pics of your Dad's..what a nice setting.

If I ever give up the ghouse biz, would love to have a pond inside of it. But after all the loads of gravel for the pad, I'd have to build up...And like Lynda, would need to win the lottery to pay the heat and light bill..

The mud pond...how deep does he keep it?

And are those your babies lounging by the pond?:D

Eugene's pond is approximately 10' deep at the lowest point. The phot's attached only show part of the pond, there's quite a bit of volume on the other side of the bridge.

Busy that is our daughter and her two friends, they'd just came home from swimming. Our backyard was quite the hot spot for the nieghbourhood kids, they thought the fish were "way cool".

If we ever win the lottery I am pretty sure we'd have an indoor pond too LOL :D

10 ft at it's lowest...wow! So the pic of it drained out and the pic of it filled...that's alot of water volume!

He uses it to grow out his koi?

Merlin, sorry I missed your question. He pumps the water into a ditch, he's set it up so he can stop in incomming water from the spring(well) for draining/filling. Honestly I don't know how long it takes to refill.

Yes Busy, this is his grow out pond. He didn't originally intend it to be, Eugene is a photographer and thought the pond would add to "scenery" for wedding photo's, etc. He fell in love with koi after the pond was made... he initially had it stocked with minnows and I think perch as well as a few goldfish.

Awesome looking ponds. I love the glass enclosures! Ours just keeps getting bigger though making that idea further out of reach each month. Maybe someday.....

Very nice ponds!

I'd like an atrium that goes out and enlsoes the main pond... maybe if we win the lottery

I've heard Eugene estimate his pond at 750,000 gallon - not sure if US or Imperial gallon and how accurate the measurement is but you can be sure he isn't dumping in any treatments for the whole pond to treat any ailments.

Last year when the International Water Garden Society was in Toronto for thier annual meetings he hosted a BBQ around this large pond.

That's alot of water!

So if he uses it for grow out, he has to drain it to catch the koi or does he seine it?

BusyB,
I figure he would seine it. We went to Brett's place this past weekend and he had numerous nets there just for that. Easier to use and doesn't require draining and refilling... of course his ponds (lakes) look like football fields.

Hmm, so far as I know Eugene drains the pond every fall, takes out the koi he wishes to bring indoors and snaggs as many minnows as he can catch (he's been trying to get rid of then for years!) then fills it back up for winter with the few remaining koi he leaves in (there's goldfish in there to btw - his theory is the herons will take the bright orange goldfish before the koi)

We've been buggin' Eugene to invite us out when he does his pond pull,.. but that's usually in late October and he believes it's too cold and doesn't wish to impose
