Just back in from the pond and my little shiro "Bullet" has given me a bit of a surprise. Seems like Bullet is morphing into Michael Jackson or something, cuz his face has considerably lightened since the weekend... kinda looks like he's got powder on one side of his face.... Dang! I was just admiring his strong sumi the other week... dang, dang, dang, how quickly things can change  I realize that in fact it's his sumi that is (quickly) fading. If it is to fade (crying) I only hope it is replaced by sparkling clean shiro.

Crazy question: Is it possible for sumi to fade and then change back???

Regards,
KD

Utsuri, like Showa... change. Sometimes good, sometimes no so good ;-)

From the 'old' pic there are layers of sumi there, if that hasn't yet fully emerged then the chances are what you are seeing is 'growing pains'. How's the shiroji? Looked ok from the pics you posted a few days ago but.... Get the camera out, sit by the pond and take a few 'close up' pics....

Showa black wobbles a bit even on mature fish....till then it can change back and forth...or not.
Warm water tends to make it fade a bit.
Shiros have a baby pattern and then morph into an adult pattern....usually between 6 and 24 months.

Quit your crying little boy, there is a very good chance it is baby sumi going down...the adult sumi will come in in the Winter
